Case Study: Namdock 3

Namdock 3

Date: August 2013 | Project duration: 3 months

Ship repair company Elgin, Brown and Hamer (EBH), appointed Logistics Support Services as the Clearing & Forwarding Agent for the import of the new Namdock 3 in August 2013. The dock, which was sourced in Newcastle, Australia, was 195 metres in length, allowing EBH Namibia to service vessels up to 190 meters in length and 33 meters in beam, increasing their dry docking capacity by 15 000 tons, and substantially increasing their ability to provide a world-class service to the local and international shipping industries. Prior to installation, the dock needed to be repaired with the replacement of 200 tonnes of steel. Additionally the site needed to be prepared which included the placement of the mooring blocks, dredging, moving Namdock 1 to her new position and placing Namdock 3 in her new position, whilst simultaneously remobilisation all equipment, such as cranes, pumps, valves and the offloading of the floating crane in the main port. Throughout the project, Logistics Support Services was on hand to support EBH with the import of the materials for this substantial project.
