Case Study: Vessel / Rig: Chameral

Vessel / Rig: Chameral

Date: August 2012 | Project duration:

In August 2012, a cabin fire on board the Chameral could not be contained, and the crew was forced to abandon ship before the vessel ran aground just outside Henties Bay, Namibia. Logistics Support Services were there immediately to assist the salvage teams. Obviously the urgency was to remove the fuel from the vessel before it started to leak into the ocean and cause ecological damage. LSS supplied the vessel with suction hoses and arranged for zip lines to be erected in order to mount the hoses so that the fuel could be discharged. 20000 litres of fuel was safely pumped into storage tanks on the beach. We also prefabricated and installed a helipad on board the vessel to assist with the transfer of crew and salvage teams.
